Fabulous Lustre Teapot 19th Century
What a delightful treasure this is. Standing 6 1/2" high and 8 1/4" from handle to spout, is a peuter topped teapot. the top has a finial decoration and the body is decorated in a tortoiseshell glazed Whieldon type decoration with shadings in brown. Teapots like this were made in the 19th century and are extremely rare. This pattern was achieved by using a combination of transfer printed stippling and hand painting which gives it this 18th century effect. The peuter lid is an unusual feature on lustreware as is the sheer metallic sheen.

Set to the center of the teapot is a cartouche with a verse that says

Happy May You Be

And Long May You Live

To Drink Out of Me"

The teapot is in excellent condition however there is a hairline that shows in the cartouche, Happy May You Be. This doesn't bother me, and shouldn't bother you. This teapot is a collectors treasure. The transfer on the reverse says"

Those Who Love Good Tea

Must Please Remember Me

Be Sure To Allow The Water To Boil

Then The Tea You Will Not Spoil"

This teapot will appeal to the sophisticated collector of teapots, lustre, and transfer decorated ceramics. This one won't last.
