An Important Antique Creamware Plate With Verse C 1800
An early and important creamware plate with polychrome decoration C 1800. The plate is 7 3/4" and has a raised floral border separated by a spiral decoration in sepia. The flowers are hand painted in pink, yellow, green and rose. Set to the center within a hand painted and decorated cartouche is the transfer. It reads:

"When this you see Remember me And keep me in your mind. Let all the world say what they will Speak of me as you find."

The edge of the plate is painted in sepia.

Plates like this are highly prized by collectors and very difficult to find. I have seen this verse on pitchers, mugs and teapots. these items were labor intensive and were made for an upmarket clientele. Frequently given as wedding gifts, birthday gifts and generally tokens of affection.

The making of these plates was a highly specialized art, with many hands and steps involved. The plate was decorated in 19th Century England usually by women and children as there were no labor laws. Children had small hands and could do the intricate decorating and painting involved. The plate displays well and the condition is excellent.
