A beautifully decorated Staffordshire double twisted handeled pottery loving cup with verse C 1860 and standing 4" tall and 4" wide. Set on a white ground is a painted bouquet of pink cabbage roses, accented with green fern and leaves. There is a gilt bow tying the stems together. Set at the rim and around the bottom there are gilt bands. The reverse of the cup written in gilt script says" When you drink out of this think o' me."
These cups were given as Wedding gifts, tokens of affection and are very popular collectors items today. They are almost impossible to get, their origins are in the early creamware of the 18th Century, when potters used verses on pitchers, cups, teapots and mugs. The condition of this mug is excellent. |
