A set of 10 Minton botanical dessert plates, second half of the 19th century. Minton produced the finest quality porcelain in europe during the period from 1830 to 1860 and was known for the quality of their decoration, employing artists from French factories.
The plates are 9", a generous dessert size, and are a white ground with a 2" apple green border. Around the border is a raised decoration surrounding the plate which the artist chose to leave without other decoration. There is a gilt decoration to the inside of the plate, not too ornate. to the center are painted flowers, zinnias, pansies, roses, asters, morning glories, all Spring and Summer blooms. They are colorful and finely detailed. The palatte is one of soft violets, pinks and soft green leaves. There is some paint loss due to age, but nothing to detract from the beauty of this fine set. |
