A Coalport Botanical Dessert Service 19th Century
This is one of the finest and prettiest dessert services I have had. It is early, first half of the 19th century, and has various botanical scenes painted on each of the plates and service pieces. Consisting of 12 large dessert plates, 2 oval serving plates, one sauce tureen with cover and a fabulous comport on stand. The set is a beautiful shade of pink on a white ground and to the center are hand painted botanical decorations, different for each piece. The handles are classical in design and are gilt decorated as are the edges of the plates and top of the tureen. The comport is on a fluted base, and has a deep well inside where a botanical spray is painted. The comport, plates and serving pieces are gilt decorated and scalloped. the most interesting detail and rarely seen is a raised white acanthas and swag decoration to all of the pieces which is gorgeous.

The comport stands 6 1/2" tall, is 12" X 9". the tureen is 6 1/2" to the top of the cover. The oval sweetmeat plates are 10" x 9". The plates are a generous 9" in keeping with the period. There is some loss of paint to the plates which is consistent with its age, nothing serious, but this set is antique and I mention it for accuracy. Twelve desserts, 2 oval sweatmeats, 1 sauce tureen and 1 fabulous comport. Altogether an impressive set and a wonderful addition to your other fine pieces.
