A Childs Mug
This is a 19th century Staffordshire childs mug with religious maxims popular in the 19th century. Used as teaching aids, these values were literally taken in as food and drink. Subjects were varied, and the mugs were purchased at fairs held throughout the country. This one says "That the soul be without knowledge it is not good." And on the reverse the transfer reads "The earth is the Lords." This is a very popular area of collecting. the mug is perfect and dates 1840.
